Bird Window Collisions

Bird Collisions

More birds are killed each year by striking windows than by any other direct cause—up to one billion birds annually in the U.S. Birds don’t recognize glass; reflections of the sky, trees, or indoor plants trick them into thinking the space is safe. Even birds that fly away can later die from blunt-force injuries.

 How You Can Help:

Install bird-safe glass, screens, or netting several inches in front of windows.

Use tape or patterned films to break up reflections.

Apply non-toxic tempera paint in patterns or stencils.

Place bird feeders within three feet of windows to prevent high-speed collisions.

Move indoor plants and position trees or shrubs away from windows.

Small changes can save countless birds each year and create a safer environment for the wildlife around your home. Come on in and ask us about protecting birds at your windows!
