Hummingbird Food

Directions for making safe hummingbird food:

Mix 1 part sugar with 4 parts warm water (water should be warm enough to dissolve sugar)

*the typical amount is 1/4 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water

  Cool and fill feeder

Extra sugar water may be stored in a refrigerator up to two weeks

Red dye should not be added

NOTE: Please use plain white table sugar. Do use refined white sugar. Honey can promote dangerous fungal growth. Organic, natural, and raw sugars contain levels of iron that could be harmful. Plain white table sugar is sucrose, which, when mixed with water, very closely mimics the chemical composition of natural nectar.

IMPORTANT: For the safety of your hummingbirds, please replace nectar every 3-5 days in cooler weather and every day once it hits over 90 degrees.  If your feeder is in a sunny location, make it over 85 degrees!
